In the year 249 AD, in the city of Alexandria, she had all her teeth knocked out by a pagan mob that was attacking Christians. Rather than be forced to renounce her faith and curse God, she leaped into a fire to preserve her faith and die a martyr. We celebrate the feast of St. Apollonia every February 9, and some relics of bone and teeth can be found in various European cathedrals
