What Is Botox and How Is It Used in Dentistry?
In this video, Dr. Charles Pearson explains what mini dental implants are and how they differ from traditional implants in size, placement protocol, and cost.
A question was asked about Botox and whether we use it here. I have had training in that and have purchased all the things to do it. It is used, though I haven’t used it yet, to be completely honest.
The number one use I see for that in dentistry is for people who are really hard clenchers and grinders with big, powerful jaw muscles, so powerful that they actually can crush and break our zirconia crowns. There is nothing I can put in a patient’s mouth that is any match for a grinder or bruxer. One of the contraindications we look for during your free consultation is evidence of a history of that, as you may not even be a candidate for implants if you have that habit. It is a bad, bad thing, but it can be treated with a guard covering your teeth at night. However, that requires patient compliance, and I have found that even a couple of nights forgetting to put it in is all it takes to break things. That is why we use Botox.
