How Long Do Mini Dental Implants Last?

In this video, Dr. Charles Pearson explains how long mini dental implants may last and what patients must do to protect their investment long term.

You might be curious, “Well, I’m spending all this money, Dr. Pearson, how long is this going to last?” The answer to that lies pretty much in your hands. With proper care, taking care of them, and regular checkups like we recommend, they can last a long time.

I have been doing them for seven years. The only long-range failures I’ve had have been from horrible oral hygiene. All the rest are intact. So, if you take care of them, they’ll take care of you. To be a safe estimate, the minimum you can hope for would be 10 years, and with good hygiene and regular dental checkups, I don’t see why they couldn’t last well into the 20-year range.

Regarding longevity, in my office, I guarantee the implants for five years as long as the patient comes in to see the dentist at least once a year and has not broken them through grinding or breaking the teeth. There is nothing I can do to stop that. We do offer some Botox injections for people who need those muscles weakened up a little bit; that usually takes about a year to a year and a half before it’s complete, with injections every three months.

So that is an option, but getting back to the point, we guarantee them for five years. Ten years is very reasonable, and I see no reason why you can’t get as much as 20 or even more with proper home care and maintenance. Just like anything else, if you don’t take care of it, it is not going to last.
