How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?
In this video, Dr. Charles Pearson explains how long dental crowns can last and what factors have the biggest impact on their longevity.
How long do crowns last? I get asked that one a lot. Dental insurance companies pay for them every five years. Does that mean they only last five years? No, but that is counting people who don’t take care of their teeth.
Although you don’t get cavities in the crown itself, the tooth they are cemented to can still get decay. I would say 10 years is probably a pretty good estimate; you should be able to expect that out of them. Of course, for me, I have the first bridge I ever did from 43 years ago on a patient. I had just started in a new practice, and he still has that bridge in place. So, that is what is possible.
