What Is a Dental Crown?

In this video, Dr. Charles Pearson explains what a dental crown is and when covering a damaged tooth may be the best way to restore function and strength.

What is a dental crown? A dental crown is where we cover a tooth as opposed to filling it. They are also known as caps, which is kind of descriptive of the procedure. It actually covers the tooth, is cemented in place, and stays in place to restore the tooth to full function. Again, that’s usually used on extensively damaged teeth that can no longer be filled because they are too broken down; we cover the tooth and are able to put it back into function that way.
