What Can I Eat After Dental Implant Surgery?

In this video, Dr. Charles Pearson explains what patients can typically eat after dental implant surgery and when temporary dietary restrictions may be necessary.

I’ve had my mini-implants put in, Dr. Pearson. How long do I have to wait to eat? The answer is you don’t have to wait. Go home and eat. If we did them immediately, meaning we put them into a socket, you can still eat right away, but you have to be a little careful around that socket because we have an open wound there. But in the case of no wound or extraction, you can eat right away.

If I noticed your bone was a little soft when I put them in (we know that because we have a special instrument that measures the torque), or the amount of force it took to get it into the bone, and it’s on the borderline, we’d ask you to stay away from tough, chewy things like beef jerky, for example. That would put undue force on that immature implant. So, those can be the things that can flip the odds in your favor if we just baby it a little bit.
