The Mini Dental Implant Process Explained Step by Step
In this video, Dr. Charles Pearson explains the mini dental implant process step by step, including how bone density and treatment planning affect candidacy.
The process of placing a mini dental implant begins with a consultation to ensure you are a candidate. During this visit, we review your medical history, looking for conditions like diabetes that could affect the success of an implant.
One requirement for mini-implants is dense jawbone, as there can be no movement while the implant heals and integrates into your jaw; movement would result in failure. After your consultation, we perform a dental CAT scan to assess bone density and the location of nerves, which allows us to customize the size and length of the implant specifically for you.
The actual procedure to place the implant is very brief, usually taking only about five minutes. The workup beforehand is the most time-consuming and critical part. Because mini-implants are minimally invasive, healing is typically uneventful. In 99% of cases, patients only need aspirin the night of the procedure. We use a small pilot hole to get the implant started, and once it is placed, we take a final X-ray. If you are interested in learning more, please call our office to schedule a free consultation.
